Hannah’s Heartfelt Prayer
A long time ago, there was a woman named Hannah who lived in Israel. Hannah was married to a kind man named Elkanah, but she was very sad because she had no children. In those days, having children was very important, and Hannah longed to be a mother.
Every year, Hannah and Elkanah would travel to the temple to worship God. While there, Hannah would pray earnestly, asking God to give her a son. She promised God that if He granted her request, she would dedicate her son to serve Him for his whole life.
A Kind Priest
One day, while Hannah was praying at the temple, the priest Eli saw her. Hannah was so focused on her prayer that her lips were moving, but no sound was coming out. Eli thought she was drunk and told her to stop. Hannah explained that she was not drunk but was pouring out her heart to God in her sorrow. Eli understood and told her to go in peace, saying that God would answer her prayer.
Hannah felt hopeful and joyful after Eli’s words. She believed that God would hear her prayer and soon give her a child.
